This Mosquito was first registered in 1985. It was originally fitted with an 850cc engine and a remote type gearbox as on early Minis and Coopers, not a later rod change gearbox. Brakes were originally all drums and wheels were standard 3,5'' steel wheels from a Mini.

I don't have informations between October 1985 and February 2002. That's quite a long time but I don't despair to get any informations.

In February 2002 the Mosquito is bought by a car enthusiast named Chris. The sale of the Mosquito will be the end of a long period of storage for it as I was said it was stored in a garage for 11 years before Chris bought it!

He took it back home. A few days later, with a little TLC, and some minor repairs, the Mosquito is M.O.T'd and back on the road.

Chris made a few changes (lights, number plate, etc.) and decided to paint a grey flaming across the front end of the Mosquito. It became his daily car for over 6 months. He used it every day in all weather, driving about 45 miles on the highway everyday.

Subsequently, Chris replaced the Mosquito and it was then parked in front of the garage and was no longer used.

My friend Emilien and I saw this Mosquito on Chris’ website. As I had to go to England for work, I got in touch with Chris and we met. During the two months I was in England, I tried several times to convince him to sell me his Mosquito. Then one day, the Mosquito had been vandalized by kids. It was parked in the middle of the street. The hood had been cut with a knife, a door was broken into two pieces, etc. When Chris saw that, he was so disappointed that he finally decided to get rid of it and accepted to sell it to me.

The deal was quickly done and a few days later, the Mosquito was repatriated to France.

I began to look seriously at the car, I noticed that:

- the engine would not start and was in bad shape (removal revealed a broken piston)

- after inspection, the frame needs repairs at the rear suspension

- the seats need to be retrimmed or changed

- the hood is completely torn, and so on.

So I decided to undertake a complete restoration rather than a simple repair. It was a difficult choice as it implied that I could not drive the Mosquito before ... a long time!

I invite you to have a look at the Restoration page. This part is largely covered with a bunch of photos of different stages of reconstruction.
